Hamburger Buns

1 T active-dry yeast

1/2 C warm water

1/2 C milk

1 large egg

2 T olive oil

2 T sugar

1 t salt

3 C flour

1 T butter

Sesame seeds


  • Put the warm water into your large bowl and stir in the yeast. Let it rest until it poofs up a bit.

  • In another bowl, combine milk, egg, oil, sugar, and salt. Add to yeast bowl and stir.

  • Add flour and stir to combine. Knead on low speed or by hand for 10 minutes.

  • Let dough rise in bowl until double, usually about an hour.

  • On a flour-dusted work surface or pastry cloth, dump out the dough and divide in to 8 pieces. Shape each into a ball and smoosh down a bit until it looks like a hamburger bun shape.

  • Put the balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let rise for 30-45 minutes.

  • Heat oven to 375°F.

  • Melt the butter and gently brush or drizzle it over the buns. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

  • Bake until golden brown, 15-17 mnutes.

  • Cool before slicing.
